Day Forty

Furrgus

Both Zita and Niamh were up excessively early this morning.

Zita because of the time difference between here and there, and Niamh so she could get to school to get her studies underway.

Even so it was too early for us to engage in even polite conversation.

So we rummaged through our Life of Pie selection and had a quick breakfast before our first neighbourhood sweep.

While Craig was having his coffee a flight of fighter planes flew overhead as today is Remembrance Day.

We try not to dwell too much on the event, as there are far too many sad memories and far too friends to remember.

And all they would want is a fond wave and a toasts with some expensive Scotch.

And we have been providing that for eons.

And we are sure that the toasts in the Regimental Mess will proceed with their usual extravagantial flair.

And we called Cousin Morag to give her our support at this emotional time.

She lost her bother Murchadh and his entire group of gillies in an afternoon at Passchendaele.

Fortunately they are all together in Tyne Cot. They would have like that.

But life around their estate never were quite the same after that.

But today naturally Morag had it well under control, pipers galore, complementary sandwiches, scones and Scotch at the pub.

We sorely missed being there .

But circumstances as they are neither Festis nor I thought it wise to trust the local constabulary to turn a blind eye to our presence.

Now Craig’s friend Paul is back from England and he dropped over for coffee.

And he brought chocolates. I hope there are some left to go with tonight’s brandy.

After Paul left Zita went shopping for dinner.

And as it was still unseasonably warm she and Professor Jill walked to the grocery store.

With one of her very little dogs.

But by the time Zita returned the sky had opened and she was a bit drenched.

Niamh got home moments later glad to have been in the car.

So after some rather delicious looking Shepherd’s Pie Niamh went out to study.

Craig and Zita went to watch their television program while we three sat around reminiscing.

Dugal brought out the brandy his Regiment had commissioned especially for such events.

And fortified with chocolate biscuits we spent a nostalgic night lounging in the comfortable chairs.
