Day Eighteen

Festis

Well Zita was up before us. Took me by surprise I must say.

It had cleanly slipped my mind that she was flying off to Newfoundland today.

And as it seemed very early today.

We pulled up our socks to wish her Bon Voyage and took the opportunity to put some porridge on the stove.

Niamh was up early too, as this is her other full day at the university.

Craig had a bit of a sleep in as he was listening to a history of the city of Ur.

Dugal said he spent some time there in the ‘30s. An awful dry place he said.

Furrgus was on late watch last night and had to explain eminent domain to an intruder.

Fortuitously he had his Sgain-dubh with him.

My lord Miss Poppy left us a lot to be accountable for.

A little while later Zita sent us some reassuring photographs.

But goodness me, propellers. In this day and age.

Reminded Dugal of his time in the western desert when he was with the Regiment.

But it got her there. We saw her on the map.

Safe and sound.

Dugal pointed out that she is nearly as far away from us as she is to Emmet.

Sometimes it is hard for us to understand how big this place is.

Well coming from the Isles everywhere is really quite enormous I do say.

At lunchtime Mrs. Guytree came to make sure Craig was compos mentis.

He seems to have passed the test. This time anyway.

But after she left he made himself some instant porridge. In the microwave.

Good Lord in Heaven.

We pretended not to notice. We might have to reassess that test.

A microwave.

Less than twelve hours since Zita left and he has been reduced to microwaved porridge.

This does not bode well for the next few days.

Miss Pam came to finish up all the painting and take away all her painting materials.

So Dugal can rest easy now.

Niamh and Tarryn and Emily arrived here from their university and promptly disappeared with the car.

They had to take Emily somewhere where she was helping a politician get elected.

And then Niamh and Tarryn went looking for second hand clothes for their hallowe’en costumes.

They are a very busy bunch.

Craig had the lasagna from the refrigerator for his dinner.

But he put it in that microwave again. Does he no know how to use the stove?

Zita had a rather delicious looking lunch from the pictures she sent.

It had real cream. That is because they are closer to Europe out there.

At home if they don’t give you real whipped cream with your scones they go to goal.

You don’t even get to see a magistrate. Just in the pokey right away.

Then Susan came over to get things Zita forgot.

She is going to meet Zita in Newfoundland tomorrow. For a little vacation.

Craig’s hockey team is playing again tonight.

But we did not place any bets. Two wins in a row seems an unlikely event to us.
