They got all packed up last night.
Zita, like most of us does not like goodbyes, so she said it last night, as she went to her office before Emmet was awake.
Craig was up early today. Just in case he was needed.
We postponed our morning patrol for the very same reason.
Then Emmet came up for more tea and to make his ticket with the printer.
He and Craig looked out the window and just talked for a little while. That was nice.
We noticed that it was not so warm today.
But we only had a bit of freezing rain.
So it was not as bad as the television said it would be. Which was very good.
And last night we saw Niamh on the television.
She was at a pub watching a very important hockey game.
And when we looked, there she was. Smiling at us. My goodness.
At lunchtime Emmet and Niamh sat in the living room and talked for a long time.
And they took down all the decorations from the Christmas tree.
Then it was time to go, so Emmet gave us all hugs and à la prochaine.
And Niamh drove her big brother to the airport.
So he could fly to Toronto and wait until his airplane flight to Dublin was ready.
It is a very long flight, and when he gets there he has to take the bus to Cork.
It will be a very long journey.
Dugal once flew from Portsmouth to Aukland. In a plane that landed in the ocean.
On purpose.
And it took him three days.
But they had real food and real knives and forks. My goodness me. That would have been a trip, I do say.
But before Emmet and Niamh left they had to scrape of the ice from the car before they could go.
And it was a very slippery driveway I must say.
So when we went on afternoon patrol out we wisely put those ice grippers on our boots.
We only went to the Wild Oat for our omelette lunch because the sidewalks were very slippery.
When we came home there was an empty box of croissants on the table.
So we knew Craig’s old friend Paul was back from skiing.
And Niamh had gone to Tarryn’s for some help writing her letters to those professors.
So we settled in for a before dinner nap.
As it was only Craig and Zita at dinner tonight they had leftovers.
Deftly created from the mountain of extra food in the refrigerator.
We, unfortunately were still fast asleep. All of us.
So we had to settle for a brace of toast and the remainder of the Quality Street candies.
Then it was back to the poker game.
