Day One Hundred and Ten

Apparently last night everyone had a better bit of sleep.

Which was a very good thing.

But when we looked outside this morning we discovered that it had snowed again while we slept. Which was not a good thing..

So Festis and I bundled ourselves into the appropriate outerwear and conducted our morning patrol.

We saw no advantage in awakening Uncle Dugal.

By the time we had checked the property and reached Bank Street, no thanks to the snow cleaning efforts of the city, Little Victories was well and truly open.

So after a couple of croissants and hand warming coffees we returned home to find that Niamh had already gone to class, and to our astonishment Craig was up and dressed.

The idea was that when Zita was working in her office Craig would watch Miss Pancake, so she would not get into any mischief.

But that plan fell apart as soon as Zita went into her office, as Miss Pancake followed her in and promptly fell asleep at her feet.

Those must be very comprehensive briefings she has received. My goodness.

So Craig made himself several espressos and looked out the windows as the snow refused to abate.

Since our input was not needed we had an early nap.

When we woke up Miss Pancake was still fast asleep in the office, minding Zita. And keeping her feet warm.

Dugal says that a dozen or so deerhounds would keep the billiard room at playing temperature even without the fireplace.

But Cousin Morag has had to limit her collection to the number that can fit into the new Bentagya.

There was no enough room in the coupĂ© you understand.

I expect they will have accompanied her to the house in London.

But Tiroam will still have Lochlainn’s brace of collies to keep the livestock in order.

And to give cook something to complain about.

When it was time for Zita’s next important meeting, Miss Pancake was right there underneath the desk.

We heard she has already been promoted to brevet assistant.

I don’t think there is a raise in pay though.

Just permission to sleep through meetings.

Professor Jill came over at lunchtime to meet Miss Pancake, but she could not stay for tea as she had to teach a class.

So when Zita went back to her office Pancake followed her and took up the duty of minding Zita during all the important meetings.

When Niamh got home she brought Miss Emily to be introduced to our Pancake.

And when we arrived home, after the before dinner patrol, Pancake and Niamh were playing in the snow in the side yard.

So we joined in, but only for a while as our feet were quite near frozen.

A poor choice of footwear I am afraid.

Everybody decided that it was a very long week so Niamh and Emily and Tarryn went to our particular evening favourite Irene’s pub.

And they brought back delicious dinners for everyone. What a pleasant treat that was.

And there were lots and lots of extra chips.

So we packed some away for a couple of chip sandwiches for our after midnight patrol.

Craig and Zita put the big crate in the kitchen.

And they put Pancake’s bed inside, to see if she  might like to sleep there.

We will see. I personally am not making and bets.
