Day Two Hundred and Seventy

Miss Pancake

My goodness I had such a busy morning.

Because today everybody is going everywhere. Except for Craig and me.

And I helped Niamh have her squeaky clean shower.

But my head got all wet as could be. Oh well.

Then I helped Niamh make the house neat and tidy.

And I saved her lots of times from that noisy floor cleaning machine. Ha.

And then I helped her do all her packing for her trip to Toronto.

And we played the catch the shoe game too. Ha. That is is very good game for me.

Then we went into Mrs. Bruna’s back yard and we played chase the ball game. For a long time.

Then we were hot and we came back to our house.

And I minded Niamh.

We were so busy that Craig did not even have his first coffee until Niamh and Tarryn were gone. My goodness me.

And Craig’s computer had pictures of Zita’s aeroplane.

And then it found her aeroplane when it was flying very fast. On top of an ocean. My goodness me.

But then it was time for my morning relax.

Yesterday Zita and her mother and her father went out for tasty treats.

In the country, not in the downtown.

Because is a very lovely sunny day.

And there are way too many cars in their downtown.

Craig and I had two very very tasty eggs rolledups for our lunch.

Because Craig did not even have a bit of breakfast because everything was way too busy here.

Furrgus and Festis

As there was another air warning we did our morning patrol at sunrise.

As it was also destined to be a bit hot and sticky today, on arriving at Little Victories we ordered a half dozen of their cooling Affogatos.

Well they are rather small.

Upon returning home we were met by the cacophony of the vacuum cleaner and Miss Pancake disputing its presence. My goodness.

Things were all hurly-burly getting the place ship shape to accommodate Mrs. T’s return.

In addition there was young Niamh preparing her packing for the excursion to Toronto. Miss P was a questionable assistant I must say.

But they eventually got settled and set off with enough luggage for a Himalayan expedition.

Miss Pancake

After my relax it was my lunchtime.

And my friend Sach sent me a picture.

And they were in a car driving on the highway. My goodness.

And my best friend Zita is back in our own country.

In not so very far away Montreal. That made me happy.

There was a huge crash outside. Something every big fell off a truck. Right on the road. My goodness.

But it did not move anywhere. So I went back to my afternoon relax.

Until it was time for my second lunch.

Furrgus and Festis

The day was not as hot as predicted but the smog was quite obvious so we curtailed our efforts today.

Taking the opportunity to call Morag, now that she has had time to settle.

When she reached the telephone she was a bit flustered, as had been conducting a training session for her herd of new deerhounds.

Well if they are like our Miss P repetition is the key, and then more repetition until the dogs have trained you to their satisfaction.

We told her that The Trust would look kindly if she wished to raise the funds to buy her family home from under her father.

She was apparently worried that some of her family’s scandals might rub off on The Trust.

Well that caused a slight bout of apoplexy from Dugal.

The Blackthorn-Badger Trust has funded the overthrow of governments when it suited the family.

And if the whole, and ongoing situation with Elseabeth has not tainted the Trust nothing will.

Anyway, he continued, why would we care about the options of anyone not kith nor kin.

Well that rather put her concerns to rest.

But she had not yet convinced herself that she even wants that pile.

Well we left her to ruminate on the whole unfortunate affair.

Dugal suggested we do a quick inspection of the house before Mrs. T arrived. Just in case Craig and Niamh effort was below par.

Fortunately, aside from a towel or two out of place all was Bristol Fashion. Thank goodness.

Miss Pancake

Mrs. Bruna found my friend Zita at our aeroport and brought her home to my house. And I was very very happy.

I was very good. I did not even bark. And she gave me lots of hugs. My goodness I was so happy.

Then Zita had a bagel and Craig and I had the rest of the rolled up eggs.

Because we had a together dinner again,

Then Zita and I went for a long nice walking practice. Just on my street.

Because sometimes I forget everything I learned.

Then we watched a little bit of the baseball game. But we could not see Niamh or Tarryn or Sach. Too bad for us.

Then Zita had a squeaky clean shower because aeroplanes are a bit smelly. Zita did not want my help. Oh well.

Then we watched our detective program.

But not for very long because Zita was very tired.

Because of the wrong clocks in far away places.

Day Two Hundred and Sixty Nine

Miss Pancake

Last night I slept in the big bedroom with Craig nearly all night.

Because his friend Zita is still not here so I kept him company. So he would not get scared.

That is an easy job for brave dogs like me.

But when it was nearly morning I got onto the sometimes a bed and kept Niamh company.

I am very busy when Zita is not here. My goodness me.

I did not have all my breakfast this morning because Niamh and I went for a very long walk before it got too hot.

Because it is going to be a hot day and with smelly air too. Oh dear.

But we had a very nice walk.

But not in the farm. We went to where there are sidewalks and lots and lots of trees.

And I saw Niamh’s old university. My goodness it has very big buildings.

When we got into the car I was a bit hot but Niamh knew a trick.

And she put my feet in cold water. And then I was cool again. Ha. But I had soggy feet. Ha.

When we got home Craig was all up too.

But it was time for Niamh to go to her lovely shop.

So she can find beautiful clothes for people.

As soon as she left Craig got me the rest of my breakfast, and he had the first coffees and we had baby doughnuts.

My goodness me.

We did not open the curtains all the way so the house would not get hot inside.

So then I had my good morning nap.

Until it was my lunchtime.

Festis and Furrgus

My goodness. We had an impromptu party last night.

Miss Tarryn’s aunt Mrs. Helen came over for some help making an invitation to a cottage party.

And she brought her computer filled with photographs of Malta.

To show Mr. T.

My goodness gracious those pictures brought back old memories.

I can remember as if it was yesterday, bringing the tanker Ohio into the Grand Harbour.

It was August of ‘42, the Penn tied to one side, us to the other, lest she sink.

And the cheers we got.

Didn’t pay for a drink the whole time we were there.

But it was a close run thing as they say.

Anyway the young ladies ordered pizza and broke out the champagne, and we made a night of it.

I must say morning patrol was perhaps more sluggish than usual. Ah well.

And sun glasses were not really optional.

As it was Thursday and that coincides with the delivery of Suzy Q doughnuts to Victories.

As a result we wasted no time getting there while the selection was still optimal.

When we got home Dugal was still asleep and Miss Pancake had followed his lead.

So we smuggled the cache of doughnuts downstairs and into the freezer without waking either.

That being successfully accomplished we too went to a well deserved sleep.

Miss Pancake

After I finished my first lunch Craig made lunchtime toasts.

With brand new raspberries jam.

And that jam was from France. My goodness it was very tasty jam.

All the Bouviers dogs were from France, but a very long time ago.

And some of my cousins still live there. And they can understand French. My goodness that is a good trick.

Craig’s friend Mister Kirk is in a very very far place. With a very hot desert.

And he went inside a pyramid. Right inside.

And it was made of giant stones.

And there were not any windows.

You should not go into places without windows. It is known.

Mister Max did not go there with him. That was a good idea.

He stayed in a very nice for dogs hotel. And it had windows.

After my second lunchtime Craig and I went outside until we got too hot.

Then we came in and he put cold water from the refrigerator in my water bowl. Ha.

Then I had a very nice nap.

After I had my first dinner Craig and I went into my side yard.

I watched the birds in our very big hedge. One is even as red as could be.

Niamh did not come home for dinner because she add errands to do.

Because tomorrow she and Tarryn and Sach and Mister Jamie and even more people are going to Toronto.

Because it is a holiday all weekend. And they are going to a baseball game.

So Craig had some eggs rolled ups. And I got some of the very crunchy ends. Ha.

When Niamh came home she and Tarryn made the house neat and tidy.

Because Craig told me that tomorrow my friend Zita is going to come back to our house.

So everything everywhere has to be all neat and tidy again.

Oh my goodness gracious me.

Day Two Hundred and Sixty Eight

Miss Pancake

Niamh and I were very busy this morning drawing beautiful pictures for Miss Seej.

Then Niamh talked to her on the telephone.

When Craig was all dressed Niamh and I went for a nice walk.

But not a too far walk because the air was a bit smelly.

Then it was time for her to go to her lovely shop.

And so it was time for Craig to have his coffee and our toasts.

We had two toasts today.

Then we went outside. But just for a little while.

Because Craig said it was a bit too smelly for him.

So we went back inside and her turned on that nice air machine.

And I had to look out the window to make sure everything was all right.

Because it was only me minding the house, because all the badgers, even Dugal, went to have a nice breakfast.

But everything was all right so I had my morning nap.

Festis and Furrgus

Well there was a rather faint smell of smoke in the air when we got up.

But the forecast said that it would get worse as the day progressed.

It is my opinion, based on decades of experience, that it always gets worse.

Which is why humans invented pie, and of course scones and scotch.

Be that as it may, we thought it best to get everything under our belts before we found out if the forecast was correct.

Even Dugal had already brushed himself to a heathy gleam, so we set off on our morning inspection.

Then it was over the bridge to the Life of Pie for the Farmer’s Breakfast; three eggs, sausages, bacon, home fries, blueberry waffles and maple syrup.

Add a side order of ham and you have a breakfast.

Our regular order of assorted pies were packed as we lingered over some espressos.

We have settled on ordering an assortment, as it saves needless discussions about what pie goes the best with a 98 Cabernet.

As we trudged over the bridge we were well aware of the oncoming haze.

So it was with some relief that we regained the scrubbed atmosphere of home.

Miss Pancake had done a splendid job of holding the fort so we joined her in a post luncheon nap.

Miss Pancake

When I woke up for my second lunch the outside air was too smelly so I did not stay outside.

Anyway I had not yet finished my afternoon nap.

My friend Zita is still not home.

She is still in Dublin helping her mother and her father with their beautiful flowers.

Especially the flowers Zita got for her a very very long time ago.

But those flowers do not look so very old. Oh well.

They were so busy at Zita’s parent’s house her father had to have used doughnuts for his dessert. Too bad for him.

Maybe they do not have a new doughnuts stores in their neighbourhood. Oh dear.

Before my first dinner Craig and I played tug. Outside.

But he is not such a good player. I am a lot faster than he is.

Because he is old. Oh well.

Tonight is Niamh’s hippity hoppity dance class.

So she can not have dinner with us.

So Craig will have to make his own dinner. Maybe.

Miss Jennifer came over to visit me. Then Niamh and Tarryn were here too.

But only to get their dance clothes.

But they came back.

And then Tarryn’s Auntie Helen came for Niamh and Tarryn to help her with a computer.

So we had lots of tasty baby doughnuts.

And they were not even used one time. Ha.

That is because we have lots of brand new doughnuts stores in my neighbourhood.

Day Two Hundred and Sixty Seven

Miss Pancake

Last night I slept in the big bedroom on my soft pillows for a while.

So my friend Craig would not be lonely.

Because Zita is still in very far away.

I did not know that she was going to be away for a long time. Maybe I forgot.

But then I went and kept Niamh all cosy on the sometimes a bed in the den.

We did not have a lovely sleep in this morning.

Because we had to be all dressed and wide awake early today.

Because a lady came here and bought my old going on aeroplanes box.

Because her little puppy is going on an aeroplane too.

And it needed the very safe just for aeroplanes box.

She was very happy when she saw it.

Because it was the very best aeroplane box ever.

And she gave us money too.

I did not mind that it left our house.

Because I have been on enough aeroplanes for ever. Ha.

Niamh made very little good for you pancakes for her breakfast. And I got one.

Pancakes for Miss Pancake she said. Ha. That was silly.

Then Niamh and I went for a little walk this morning.

We did not practice anything this morning.

Because it was nearly time for Niamh to go to her lovely shop and sell lots of beautiful things.

After she was gone Craig had his first coffee and he had ice cream too. My goodness me.

I do not know why. Maybe we had too much ice cream. Maybe

But I got to lick the spoon all clean.

Then when he had his next coffee we had a croissant.

It was not a brand new croissant. It was a bit old.

A bit old croissants are my favourite.

Because they have lots and lots of crumbs. And crumbs are my favourite thing. My goodness me.

Then it was the right time for my morning nap.

Furrgus and Festis

My goodness what a downpour we had last evening.

We seriously contemplated getting the collapsible kayak out of the basement.

But we decided we might be accused of over reacting.

After patrolling we went up to Feleenas for dinner.

The lake we encountered on the way was quite impressive.

Completely blocking Third avenue.

But quickly detouring we managed to reach the restaurant without further incident. Thank goodness.

Though we did wish we had worn our Hunter Wellingtons.

A few very filling fajitas later we returned home bypassing the various lakes that had sprung up.

Though I must admit we did rather dawdle about watching the fire department drain them.

When we reached home Mr. T young Niamh and a fast asleep Pancake were in the den watching a movie.

We did not disturb them, and went quietly to our beds.

Miss Pancake

After I had my lunch I had my nap.

Because today was a Craig and Pancake day so we always have time for a nice relax.

I did not have an outside nap this afternoon. It was just an all the time cloudy day.

My friend Zita talked to us on Craig’s flat computer. To make sure he did not starve all away yet.

That was nice.

Then Craig and I had toasty muffins from England. And Craig put lots of jam on top.

Then I went back to my nap under the dining room table. For my next relax.

When Niamh got home Tarryn was with her so we had hamburgers until Sach got here then everyone got ice cream.

After my second dinner everyone sat in the living room and talked, except Craig he went in the den to watch a baseball game.

I stayed in the living room to mind everybody.

Until it was time to go to bed.

Day Two Hundred and Sixty Six

Miss Pancake

We had a different kind of sleep in this morning.

After I went outside and we had our breakfast we went back to bed.

And we both went to fast asleep again. Ha.

We only got up when Craig was all awake too. Ha.

That was a good sleep in.

But then Niamh had to go to her job at the stretching store.

So Craig and I had toasty croissants for our breakfast. And he had two coffees.

Then it was my window watching time.

But very soon it was time for my morning nap.

The air was smelly again today so I did not have my outside nap this morning.

My friend Zita is still in very far away Dublin. She is being a big help.

Maybe that is why I am such a good helper. Maybe.

Festis and Furrgus

Well the air quality warnings were activated again.

And when we went out this morning there was a distinct whiff of smoke in the air.

But we did not bother with masks today and went straight out on patrol.

By the time we had finished it was time to head over to Little Victories for a few quick cappuccinos interspersed by doughnuts.

And when we set out for home there was a slight breeze blowing,
 which should help things.

Well one hopes so anyway.

Niamh had already left for her quid pro quo job at the pilates place when we got home.

Mister T and Miss Pancake were just finishing up the croissants, so we bid them a good morning and went for our morning naps.

Another morning successfully under our belts.

Miss Pancake

This morning was just a nice relax for Craig and I.

I was very very busy yesterday.

That is why I went back to sleep this morning.

I woke up just in time for my first lunchtime. And as soon as I was finished Niamh came home.

But then she was very busy helping her friend who is getting married.

She was drawing pictures for her. In the den. So I went in to help her.

And I stayed there, until it was time for my second lunch.

When we were busy there was loud thunder and even very bright lightning everywhere.

And then even some lots of rain.

Bouncing off the ground rain. My goodness.

But I was not scared.

I went outside to look all around. But I got a bit soggy.

But I went in the living room to make sure Craig was not too scared.

But then there was ice. Falling down right on my house.

And lots of winds too. My goodness me.

Niamh moved all the rain with the for the snow shovel. My goodness me.

Then when the rain was gone away a man came with a package.

And it had new bouncy balls in it. For me. Ha.

That was a good surprise for me.

Niamh cooked a tasty chicken for dinner.

And I got some cheese.

Then I help Niamh make her very best art in the den.

Until it was time for everybody to go to bed.

I sleep in the comfy sometimes a sofa bed.

But in the night I go into the big bed room to look at Craig.

To make sure he is still there.

And did not go to Ireland too.

Like Zita and Emmet.

Sunday, 25 June 2023

Day Two Hundred and Sixty Five

Miss Pancake

I did not go to fast asleep until late last night.

Because Niamh and I had to watch a movie in our bed. My goodness me.

When we got up it was already nearly hot outside.

So we decided to have an adventure day.

So we got in the car. Ha.

Car rides are my most favourite rides.

And we went to find Miss Emily and then we went to my friend Sue’s store to get more treats for me.

Because I ate all the others by myself. Oh dear.

Then we went to the giant park again. That is a good place to practice my nice walking.

Very early this morning friend Zita went on the train to Cork.

Craig told me. And I saw the pictures too.

But it was very rainy in Dublin.

She went to Cork so she could visit Emmet and Alice.

And it was not raining in Cork.

So she was not all soggy when Emmet found her.

And they had lunch there and Miss Alice’s parents were there too. My goodness gracious me.

Then Niamh was all ready and I got in the car for our adventure day. Ha.

Festis and Furrgus.

Well the streets were filled again last night but no one was brave enough to set foot on Miss Dog’s domain.

By the time we three were making our way back home we met young Niamh, who was also battling her way through the oncoming hordes.

So we placed ourselves in front and bulled our way home.

Considering how much we had just eaten the exercise was more than welcome.

On our arrival Miss Dog was still basking in her abilities to maintain the integrity of the home.

We on the other hand, like Mr. T, were quite ready for bed, and left the late night snacking to young Niamh and Miss Pancake.

Craig had left the air purifier on all night which was fortunate as the smoke had made a reappearance, unfortunately.

The ladies were still asleep when we left on morning patrol.

So not wanting to disturb anything we went directly to breakfast at the Ichiban.

Their morning offerings had just emerged causing us some difficulty in choosing.

So Dugal ordered two of everything saying that’s what was left over we would pop in the freezer.

Mrs. T kindly send us a series of photographs of her day with young Emmet and Doctor Alice.

Their apartment is fabulous according to Mrs. T.

Dugal said that the stairs looked more trendy than safe.

And this from someone who scaled Ben Nevis in Morocco leather slippers, on a rather inebriated bet.

Considering the Post Doc appointment and finally an apartment it has been quite the week for them I must say.

Miss Pancake

I had a whole day adventure.

And I went for a walk in the river.

But there were silly people jumping off the bridge into the river.

And it was not one of Rowan’s safe as can be bridges. Too bad for them.

And Niamh and I went to lots of lovely stores.

And I had a lovely rest right in front of them

And I went for a nice walk where the trains used to go.

But they do not go there anymore. Too bad for me.

When I got home I was so tired Craig had to remind me when it was my first dinner time. My goodness me.

Festis and Furrgus

After of lunchtime nap we decided to hike over to Dow’s Lake.

We all felt the need for some exercise don’t you know.

One must eventually pay for excess, no matter how delicious it was, our how beautiful she was.

Dugal insisted I add the last part. His guilty conscience must be bothering him.

Anyway the charcuterie board, Oignon gratiné and the truffle grilled cheese rather overcame our common sense.

So off on an expedition it was.

Unfortunately our Niamh and her furry shadow had already ready departed on their own adventure.

We were expecting her presence would scare off any over enthusiastic females.

So as a result, without her, we did not wear our kilts. Safer that way,

Due to the uncertainty of the air we wore our masks.

That may have helped as we returned home unmolested.

 Miss Pancake

When I was having my adventure Zita went shopping with Emmet and Alice.

And Zita sent me lots of pictures and Craig showed them to me.

Because Emmet and Alice need nearly everything for their new apartment.

Maybe even some very comfy pillows.

Emmet has lots and lots of pillows downstairs. He loves comfy pillows.

We already got them some beautiful cups for their all the time tea.

One had a buzzing bee on it.

Because Emmet knows all about the laws for bees.

I did not know bees had laws. My goodness.

You learn these things in university.

Then Emmet and Alice took Zita and showed her their very own new apartment. My goodness me.

And they put the beautiful cups in their own kitchen right away.

So it was a good present. That is good.

Now maybe bees will come to visit. Maybe.

Then it was time for Zita to find the train back to Dublin.

So she went and found the train station where all the trains are.

And one of them took her back to Dublin.

Maybe she will have a nice nap.

Lots of times people have naps on trains. Craig told me so.

He went on trains a long long time ago. I have not been on a train.

After my dinner Niamh made very delicious hamburgers.

But I went to fast asleep right under the dining room table.

I think everybody will go to our bed early tonight.

Because Niamh and I had a very busy day.

Saturday, 24 June 2023

Day Two Hundred and Sixty Four

Miss Pancake

Niamh and I had a very big sleep in this morning.

We did not wake up until Craig was all awake and even all dressed. My goodness me.

Because Niamh and I were up until very late last night.

Watching the television. Together in the bed in the den.

But before she got home I was very very busy guarding my house.

Because there were lots and lots of people on my corner.

And they were very loud. And some of then had sick tummies too. My goodness me.

I barked very fiercely at them. So they would all know that I was guarding my house.

But one boy ran up our walk waving his arms.

So I jumped up and put my feet on the window. And he ran right away.

And all his friends laughed at him. Ha. Good for me.

Then a police car went down our street with all it very bright lights on. Then lots of those people went away. Ha.

When Niamh got home she said she and Lee could almost not get home because of the silly people.

Then, when we went to bed, we had ice cream.

That is why we were fast asleep when Craig got up. Oh well.

So I did not have my breakfast so early today. But I did not starve.

Maybe because of the ice cream.

After Niamh had her bath my friend Lee came to say goodbye to us.

Before they went to Toronto to find the go to Greece aeroplane. That was nice.

Then Niamh and I had a little run all around in Lee and Cara’s backyard.

But it is not Cara’s anymore.

Because Cara does not live there anymore.

She has her own little house. And Mister Devon lives there too.

I did not know that. Nobody told me.

Then when Niamh was all awake she went to her shop in the fast car.

So Craig and I had tasty croissants with jam.

But then it was time for my morning nap.

Festis and Furrgus

Well when we got up the whole hose was strangely quiet, except for the sound of the wonderful air conditioning.

My brother peeked in and all were fast fast asleep. Miss P was entirely wrapped around our Niamh.

Considering last night’s ructions it came as no surprise.

There was some sort of concert at Landsdowne and on completion the revellers flooded the streets.

Some being rather the worse for wear I must say.

A bunch of them were sitting on our lawn at the corner.

Well as you can only imagine Miss Pancake was having none of these shenanigans on her property .

And made her presence and her opinions loudly known.

One of the louts took up the challenge and ran up the walkway.

Dugal immediately produced a Kukri and advanced to the front door.

Well that was redundant.

Miss P literally rose to the occasion.

She jumped up placing her paws high up on the window.

Now while she is not nearly fully grown, she is a lanky young thing. And on standing up, fully extended, she is over five foot.

The sight of this arising to the confrontation was far too much for the potential mischief maker and he fled.

Accompanied by the raucous laughter of his audience.

Moments later a police truck slowly came down the street, lights ablaze and the crowd found that it had pressing appointments elsewhere.

Well as peace returned to the corner we could hear Miss Poppy’s barks of approval from on high.

“Well done young Pancake, well done.”

We then went on patrol, sword canes close by hand, and when assured the silliness had vanished, we proceeded to Irene’s for the last set.

When we got home young Niamh and her furry friend were watching the television from the sofa bed.

We left them to their own devices and went to our own beds.

A day well done I must say.

Miss Pancake

I had a very lovely long nap and Craig did not even wake me up at lunchtime.

Because I had a very very late breakfast.

And he thought I needed my beauty sleep. That was a good idea.

So Craig and I had a very relaxing day all day today.

It was not so hot outside today, but I did not have any outside naps.

Because my chair and my living room bed are more comfy when you are tired.

My friend Zita is still in Ireland.

With her own parents.

And today her mother was reading my story when she was having her afternoon treats.

But tomorrow Zita is going on a train to Cork. To visit Emmet.

To visit Emmet and maybe see Emmet and Alice’s new apartment. Maybe.

I knew a secret but I could not tell everybody right away.

Because Emmet asked me not to. Oh my goodness me. A real secret.

Just like those spies on the television.

But now I can tell everyone. Ha.

The University is going to give my friend Emmet real Irish money, to write more important stories, and to teach people at the university. Oh my goodness.

Now Emmet and Doctor Alice both have interesting jobs. Just like me. Ha.

Festis and Furrgus

We the cat is out of the bag.

Emmet has been offered and accepted a Post Doctoral appointment at his university. Well dome Emmet.

A Post Doc and an apartment surrounded by trendy cafés and in one week. My goodness me.

Apparently, in a moment of self sacrifice, Dugal has booked us in, at his expense, for a celebratory dinner at the Cocoette.

Now how this will help Emmet, is beyond our ken, but we would never turn down an opportunity to take advantage of Dugal’s largesse.

I mean buying a thousand pounds of Google stock on day one, what can one say.

Anyway we spect the rest of the after perusing the menu.

Trying not to focus in on the just the charcuteries.

By the time Miss Niamh arrived home we had just called for a taxi.

Wishing everyone a pleasant evening we were off to spend Dugal’s money.

In order to honour Emmet academic success you understand.

Well there is a smidgen of truth in there.

Hidden somewhere between the main course and dessert I think.
