Day Two Hundred and Sixteen

Miss Pancake  

Oh my goodness gracious me. 

It is my friend Zita’s birthday. 

And I did not know. 

Because nobody told me. Oh my goodness. 

When Craig was all awake he wished her Happy Birthday.

That is how I knew it was her Happy Birthday day.

And then Niamh had her delicious food books on the dining room table.

Because she is going to make an especially delicious dinner tonight.

Miss Tarryn was here too. To help.

Then Craig and Zita went for a by themselves walk. 

Up to the very busy street.

So I stayed here to mind Niamh. Ha. 

I am the very best minder. It is known. 

But Niamh and Tarryn were talking about presents. 

And I did not get my Zita a present.

Because nobody told me. 

And I do not have any money. Oh my goodness. That is not all right. 

Craig and Zita came back after a little while. 

And they had tasty pastries. I could smell them. Oh my.

But then Craig told me that he found a very nice present for me to give to Zita. 

But he forgot to tell me. I do not know what it is. 

Because Happy Birthday presents are secret presents. 

Then Niamh and Tarryn went out to do some secret errands. My goodness.

So many secrets. Maybe we are spies. Maybe. 

And Zita went outside to clean our garden all up. 

So we will have even more beautiful flowers. 

But I had to stay here and mind Craig. That is not so interesting. 

So I minded Zita from my watching window. 

Niamh said that even Craig will have a birthday soon. He has had lots and lots of birthdays. 

But he still gets secret presents.

Zita was outside all afternoon because the garden is her relax.

So I had my own afternoon relax too.

When I was all awake again Craig told me all about our birthdays. 

You get presents even if you are too old for presents. 

And you always get a sing Happy Birthday cake. 

And everybody has to sing the Happy Birthday song. 

It is our rule. That is a very good rule.

He told me that when it is my Happy Birthday day I will get presents too. 

And even some very special treats. Oh my goodness. 

Because everybody in our has the same rules. Except for Emmet. 

Because sometimes he is in his very far away university when it is his birthday.

So last year Miss Doctor Alice’s mother got him his own cake. In Ireland. But it was still a real cake. 

When Niamh and Tarryn got home they took and all music making machines from the dining room over to Lee’s house. 

Because we had way too many. 

And now the dining room is all empty for our Happy Birthday dinner. Ha. 

When Niamh and Tarryn came back I helped them to make the special dinner. 

Because I am always a big help. 

But my friends the Badgers went out early this morning, even Colonel Dugal.

And they did not get back in time to sing the Happy Birthday song. 

I do not know why. Oh my goodness. 

Maybe they have been kidnapped, like the man on our television program. Oh dear me. 

And then Sach came over to help me in the kitchen. 

That was nice. 

And we had beautiful flowers, from our own garden.  Right on our dining room table.

With Happy Birthday to You cards too.

And then everybody ate the very delicious dinner Niamh made.

Then it was secret presents time and Craig had a giant box. 

And in it there were some secret presents for Zita. 

And the best one was from me. Ha. Good for me. 

It was a fat jar of especially delicious marmalade from Mister Fortnam’s store in England.

It is for our good morning toasts. Ha. That was a good present. 

We did not watch the television tonight.

Because we had to eat the Happy Birthday cake. 

And there was gold on it. And you could eat it. My goodness me. 

That was a special cake. 

And when it came into our dinning room it was on fire.

That was a big surprise for me. 

And then everybody sang the happy birthday song. 

But I did not sing. 

Because I did not know those words. Oh well. 

And then everybody ate it all. 

And then it was time for everybody to go to bed. 

I was very tired too.
