Day Two Hundred and Thirty One

Miss Pancake

Today is a holiday. I did not know that.

So we did not have to go to work at all.

But Zita and I had lots and lots of work to do, in the side yard.

We have a very very very long stick that can cut branches right off trees.

And then they fall down on the ground. Then I can grab them. Ha.

But sometimes Zita got on a up high ladder. I did not like that.

When she was on it she was too high in the air.

Maybe a giant bird would catch her. Oh my goodness me.

I told her it was too high but she did not listen to me. That is not so good.

How can I be her very best minder if she is not a good listener. Oh my goodness.

Then Craig got up and made coffees.

So then we all had a relax in the living room.

It was a very beautiful day today. All over everywhere.

Even in Ireland too.

It did not even rain at Emmet’s university even once today.

Then Craig made round toasts. And they are not round toasts at all. He was wrong.

They are not even toasts at all. They are really tasty crumpets. Zita told me.

And they are especially delicious because they have lots and lots of holes for the jam. Ha.

But then I had to stay inside with Craig because Zita was cutting a very big tree.

And she said I might get squished flat. That is not true. I am way too fast. Ha.

But I had to stay inside anyway. Too bad for her.

This morning we put a new outside bathtub for all the little birds and it is right in front of my window.

So they will not get too hot in the summer.

And right away there were lots of them right here. Having their baths. Ha.

Festis and Furrgus

Well it is the old Queen’s birthday. And they have a holiday over here for it.

They do not even celebrate it over there in England.

Thank goodness there remains support for tradition, especially when it generates a holiday.

But after saying that, we do find it limits our choice of breakfast establishments.

Fortunately Irene’s was open earlyish today.

So it was plates of waffles with whipped cream and a side order of sausages this morning.

As the place was rather rapidly filling up with tourists we did not linger today, and walked home via the canal so we could see the last of the tulip festival.

When we got home Mrs.T was going at trimming the hedge with a vengeance.

As Miss Pancake was already helping her, we decided it was all well under control and therefore no reason to delay an extended nap.

Our Miss Niamh was still at the Mahoney’s cottage, which considering the beautiful weather was no surprise.

Early this morning we received a telegram from cousin Morag.

They are having a heat wave in Glenfinnan, and she has given everyone the day off.

Now why she thought we should know this was a bit beyond my brother and myself.

It is not as if she would have payed any attention to our opinions anyway.

But be that as it may, we now know why there is no one answering the phone at Tiroam, if for some unknown reason we might have phoned.

We are both sure that there is more behind this than meets the eye.

We must renew our subscription to The Scotsman, something is lurking we can feel it. Never a good sign.

Reminded me of the time we were straddled by the Lützow at Jutland. Before all of hell arrived.

I had better inform Uncle of my forebodings. It is his side of the family with the sight you know.

Miss Pancake

Craig had his lunch before me today.

Maybe because it is a holiday.

But he shared it with me anyway.

We had crackers and cheese and even some very crunchy apples.

I could not be outside because Zita had the blow everything all over machine and was cleaning the side yard.

Then there were no branches for me to chew. Oh dear.

But then it was time for my lunch.

After lunch Zita cleaned the kitchen with that nasty broom, and I could not be her helper.

But I tried to get over the pretend door.

But Craig said I had to stop. Or I might get hurt.

He is just jealous because I am a very good jumper.

Ha. Too bad for him.

There were still lots and lots of people on my street.

And then we had an adventure.

Because one family lost their own car.

So Zita had to help them find it. They were trying to find the beautiful flowers.

But they could not remember where they left their car.

And only the young lady could talk in our language. Oh my goodness me.

So Zita took them in our car to find it.

I could not go. There was not enough room. Oh dear. Too bad for them.

I bet my nose could have found it right away.

But they found it right away, on Kathy’s street.

Zita told me it was just lots of luck that they found it. Oh my goodness.

The people were very very happy. That is good.

But we were so busy I almost forgot to have my afternoon nap.

But my friend Craig reminded me before I got way too tired.

Then Zita had to clean the inside of our car.

Because it was way too dirty. She said it was not even my fault. That was good.

Then we had visitors.

Because Tara and Taylor drove Niamh back from the cottage.

And they had never met me before. So they are brand new friends. Ha.

Then Niamh went to Tarryn’s to get more clothes to sell.

Because soon everybody in my own neighbourhood sells all their way too much stuff to everybody else.

Right on their own front lawns. And everybody from everywhere comes to buy the stuff.

It is Craig’s nearly most favourite day. My goodness.

My friend Poppy told me so. I do not think it is a secret.

Craig and Zita had bacon for their dinner.

Sometimes bits fall on the floor and then they are mine. It is our own rule.
